Founded in 1983, the Austin Society of Karate (ASK) specializes in
providing martial arts training in community centers, recreation
centers and schools in the greater Austin-metro area including
Williamson, Travis, Caldwell and Milam counties.
We teach American karate with an emphasis on sparring, conditioning
and self-defense. Our goal is to enhance the lives of our students
through martial arts training. We believe martial arts offers many
benefits, including teaching discipline, self-confidence,
self-defense, and self-control.
Our “kids safe” program teaches children valuable abduction-prevention
and awareness skills. With more than 35 locations and 60 classes for
children and adults, the Austin Society of Karate provides training
convenience unparalleled in other commercial karate schools.
Each year, we hold four invitational local tournaments and one North
American Sport Karate Association tournament. The ASK is a recognized
“Superfoot” school and is a member of the All-American Society of
Karate with training locations around the state of Texas and more than 2,000 members.
Since its inception 26 years ago, the ASK has trained more than 40,000 students and become a respected Austin organization with:
35 training locations;
60 classes;
More than 30 instructors;
20 assistant instructors;
More than 150 tournaments since 1983;
4 local tournaments each year with an average attendance of 3,000; and
1 national North American Sport Karate Association tournament each year with an average attendance of 3,500.
Greg Beaver, director of the ASK, started practicing karate in 1973 and received his black belt in 1977. He’s currently a 6th degree black belt.
